Peek Into the Past

discoverouabache

Before it was Ouabache State Park, the property was called Wells County State Forest and Game Preserve from 1935-1962. “Game Preserve” showed the new initiative of raising game animals like pheasants, quail and raccoon. A hundred quail pairs began the game farm in March 1936. Pheasant and quail annually numbering in the thousands were caged until grown the size of release. Waterfowl habitats were also created to encourage ducks and geese to use the lake.
