First PAWS in the Park hike celebrates our four-legged friends

By Joni Cincotta

On Aug. 12, approximately 35 participants, both 2-legged and 4-legged, gathered for the first PAWS in the Park Hike. There was a photo booth, treat boxes and plenty of water bowls. Lakeside Shelter was the starting point for a 1-mile hike through the woods and around Kunkel Lake. There was lots of laughter and tail wagging. Dogs ranged in age from 6 months to 9 years old. The largest weighed 75 pounds, and the smallest was a whopping 10 pounds.

It was so much fun for both dogs and humans, that another hike is scheduled for Oct. 7. This will include a fall costume contest. Check the park website for further details.

Providing these hikes is a great opportunity to focus on dog etiquette and rules when within the park:

P: Pack out all your dog’s waste.

A: Always leash your pet on a maximum 6-foot leash.

W: Give Wildlife space by staying on designated trails.

S: Practice pet Safety by providing water for your dog.

Our goal is to have the best BARK Rangers in the state! Until next time, happy tails to you.
