The Wonderland of Lights was held every night of December. More than 1,900 vehicles entered the front gate. It took approximately 206 volunteers working more than 850 hours to make this event happen.
Santa greeted visitors at the entrance to the campground. More than 50 displays created by the Friends or community participants created a world filled with lights and holiday spirits.
Friends of Ouabache members refurbished more than 65 pieces of donated light displays. They removed old lights, sanded and painted the frames, and attached new LED rope lights. More than 5,000 zip ties, 45 rolls of electrical tape and 2,200 feet of rope lighting were used.
Community individuals, organizations, and businesses volunteered to decorate a campsite. The visitors could vote for their favorites.
One of the memorable displays was the fire tower light show, where the tower and its plaza comes alive when the lights are synchronized to music. Visitors were treated to three different shows. This year’s show was dedicated to the founding members of the Friends of Ouabache. Creator Kraig Schwartz spends many hours creating this awesome display.
The Wonderland of Lights would not happen without its wonderful sponsors that donate financially to the event. This year, 22 different sponsors pitched in to help fray expenses.
Santa returned to Trails End Shelter the first four Saturdays of December. He was accompanied by his trusty elves. The Elf Cocoa and Cookies Shop added an extra special treat for those wanting to visit Santa.
Santa had to hurry on his way, but he will be back next year. Plans are already in the works for Wonderland of Lights 2024. Make your plans now to make the show a holiday tradition.
