Did you know that when the property was the Wells County State Forest and Game Preserve from 1935 through the 1960s, thousands of game birds were produced and shipped across the country?
The pheasant laying pens were large enough for 5.400 birds. The holding capacity (covered pens) was 12,000 pheasants. There were breeding pens for 4,000 quail. The holding capacity for the quail was 25,000 birds! Remnants of these structures can still be found around the park.
