Letter From the Editor

By Kathy Schwartz Editor

Welcome to the debut issue of Discover Ouabache.

Friends of Ouabache, in partnership with the First Bank of Berne, are excited to bring this publication to you.

We wanted to give the visitors to the park a resource that they could use to enrich their stay, educate them on the natural world and encourage our visitors to interact with Ouabache State Park.

Discover Ouabache is published quarterly on its website. We have placed posters throughout the park and community that gives the website address and a QR Code to access the website. We chose to publish the magazine in digital form because of the relatively low cost, and we also felt that it is more ecologically minded to do so.

I was encouraged to experience the enthusiasm that I encountered as I sought out others that might be interested in making my idea a reality.

I hope you can feel the excitement and dedication that the magazine staff put into planning and creating this publication. We want you to feel what makes Ouabache State Park a special place and the Friends of Ouabache so passionate about promoting the park.

Springtime is one of my favorite seasons at the park. The forests are awakened from their winter slumber, and the forest floor comes alive with wildflowers. Visitors are greeted with vibrant colors that line the roadways and hiking trails. The first blooms of the redbud tree announce the beginning of the season and give way to the greening of the trees and the return of the songbirds. If you are very lucky, you may get a glimpse of newborns being introduced to the wonderful world around them Campers return to their campsites, and the smell of the campfires tells us that many hearts are at peace as they nestle under the stars.

So until next time, may your blessings be too numerous to count and your worries to few to mention.
